KfW Ipex, the commercial arm of the German development bank, has financed a €125mn green logistics centre.
The facility in Neu-Isenurg, south of Frankfurt, will supply markets across Germany with dry food and non-food items and will be complete by 2014. The lender is REWE Group, a German trade and tourism company.
It is expected that the facility will allow the company to lower its carbon emissions by 30%.
Markus Scheer, director at KfW Ipex, says: “We especially support projects that benefit the environment and the climate. The tailor-made financing solution for our long-standing customer is our way of assisting REWE Group with its consistent, environmentally responsible logistics reorganisation.”
