Investec Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) has appointed Yudhvir Harrilal as head of international trade finance.
Based in Sandton, South Africa, Harrilal will report to Andre Wepener, head of CIB Africa regions and structured finance solutions.
He will lead Investec’s trade finance team, with responsibility for driving the bank’s strategy in the sector. According to an Investec spokesperson, financial institution trade finance is a key pillar of the bank’s broader Africa regions growth strategy.
Harrilal joins after more than 17 years at Nedbank, where he most recently served as divisional executive for international financial institutions. In that role, he was responsible for managing the lender’s international banking relationships and international financial institution transactional business.
He previously held senior roles at Nedbank across international financial institutions, transaction banking strategy and pricing, sovereign credit and product development, including serving as head of sales for international financial institutions between 2019 and 2022.
He left the bank for a brief stint in 2011 to work at AIG as a product development manager.
In his new role at Investec, he succeeds George Wilson, who left the bank last year to become chief executive of the ARM African Trade Finance Fund, an impact investment vehicle focused on expanding trade finance for African SMEs.
